Be On The Look-Out: Artist of the Week- Mula

Artist: Mula Genre: Hip Hop/Rap Origin: Brooklyn, NY  Statistically speaking, 2 out of 5 music consumers say that "the music [they] listen to tells people something about who [they] are." The same goes for Brooklyn rapper, Mula. Mula is the perfect blend of street, smarts, and an expert of lyrical manipulation. He began his career as an artist armed with a pen and a notebook setting out to create the lyrical ear crack of a mixtape that came to be known as "Fresh Out the P’s" which has over 10,000 downloads. Since the success of the "Fresh Out of the P’s" mixtape, doors began opening for the promising young rapper. Everything from meeting his current manager, Prince Lord of You Need Marketing, LLC., to being a spokesperson for Zen Edge Energy Drink and doing a radio commercial alongside T-Pain and other mainstream artists. Mula is well on his way to becoming the next rap artist to blow, and if you are having your doubts, yoraps.com themusicbizzmag.com and mahoganygirl.com are just of the few sources who stand behind that claim. Mula also has a gift that not every artist can proudly boast; he is able to identify with his fans. Each time this force of an artist takes the stage, the energy that resonates between him and the crowd is evidence that this man is well on his way. "My style, my lyrics, my tattoos, and everything about me and my music are relatable to the people who like my music. From the struggles I’ve gone through in life and as an artist, I have been fortunate to from a personal connection that all of my fans can relate to and for that reason, my fan base is solid and continues to grow."

Ohshawn- The Book Of Ohshawn - Mixtape Review

First off let me say that I am really feeling this mixtape. Definitely an album I can pop in on a night cruise in the car. Or even a train cruise (lol). All the songs have bumpage and are all nod worthy. There is a song on here for everyone. GIVE IT A LISTEN! Don't Sleep On Ohshawn!

The Prologue - Interesting way to start the mixtape.

Feel So different - #BUMPAGE. Nod worthy. Production is incredible a great way to open the mixtape

N.W.O - The Flow is just incredible especially because its upbeat.

Hell Naw - Production is sick. Flow is crazy. Reminds me of something Outkast would have done.

Oh, Lets Do It Again - Nod Worthy.

Beat it up - Production is good. Perfect cruise music on a late night.

Still A Freak - One of my favorites on the mixtape. Flow is real laid back yet compelling. #NODWORTHY

Business - Once again great production. BUMPAGE!

Down like that - The hit* Point Blank

DYTAM - Ohshawn's POV of "Do You Think About Me" (50 cent). I like Ohshawn's better.

Unthinkable - Definitely that tune that makes you think. Every Mixtape/Album has to have a song like this.

Mr. Ohshawn (Glass Of Grenades) - Definitely a night tune when you are cruising in your car. #MAXout

Coup D'Etat - Somewhat a crossover hit. Real mellow tune

Q&A - Ohshawn over the Luchini Beat = Priceless #BUMPAGE

Sweetest Thing - Mellow tune #Maxout

Up to my face (B#tch) - #NODWORTHY Nice Delivery..as usual (lol)

Betty Rock - The flow is RIDICULOUS

IGWE - MAAOOODDDDDDDDD

Not Me - Good Production. Good Message

@IamOhshawn - Nice vibe. #NODWORTHY

You Will Never Know - Love this song. #BUMPAGE #MAXout #NODWORTHY all in one

The Blacklist - Good Production. I just wished the song wasn't so short.

The Book Of Ohshawn - Best song on the mixtape. Luckily its the Album's title. Definitely the song to end the mixtape

Be On The Look-Out: Artist of the Week- Medy Sun

MedySun has constantly proved himself to be one of hip-hops new-school visionaries and plans take hip-hop and rap to new and electrifying levels. Indeed, MedySun is a valued emcee, devoted to his music, with a passion for life, culture, social consciousness and a desire to edutain (educate and entertain), which will surely fortify his place in musical history.
Born in Harlem, New York, MedySun grew up at the center of hip-hops golden era of the 1980's. Inspired by legendary emcees of the time (Rakim, KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC), MedySun began rhyming and writing songs at the tender age of eleven. He moved to the islands of Bermuda to live with his father. In Bermuda he was exposed to the rhythms and lyrics of foundation and dancehall reggae, which also had a major part in inspiring his musical knowledge.
Encouraged by his brother in law (Faheem the Elemental), MedySun became part of his group R.A.C.E. He later signed to the record label Earthquake Entertainment, the independent label owned by his brother in law. On their first record - 'Sins of the World released in 2000, MedySun' talent was clear to see - exhibiting his entire gift as a lyricist and ability to motivate the crowd. The group stepped on the underground scene and made a name for themselves amongst the top underground emcees such as; Immortal Technique, Percy P, Breeze Eva Flowin, C Rayz Wallz, Poison Pen, Jin the MC (former Ruff Ryder battle artist). “I learned a lot from these guys. I learned what it meant and what it took to be an emcee/hustler/an entrepreneur. They’re still in the game making moves because that’s what it takes to make your dreams a reality.
The breaks were stepped on when his son was born prematurely in 2004. A year later MedySun returned to the studio to record the next R.A.C.E. album with F the Elemental in 2005. The following year his son passed away which caused him to fall back and re-evaluate his life. “When life hit you with the death of a child there’s no way one can rebound the next day or even the following month. I knew I had to fall back and clear my mind and seek higher guidance.” Eager to get back into the music MedySun knew that he had to work hard and make moves right away to clear his mind and prepare himself for his next step. He went on an eight month hiatus to the islands of Bermuda then to the Kingdom of Morocco in Africa. His younger brother (Abdul-Qaadir a.k.a. Dullah) encouraged him to get back on his music game and offered to manage his musical affairs. “Honestly, if it wasn’t for Dullah giving me the support I needed I would have probably given up the music. He was that final pillar that held me up.”
After nine years from his first release with the group R.A.C.E. MedySun returned to the studio and is now working on a series of mix tapes and his solo debut album. His mix tape Food 4 Thought Vol.1 will be released in February 2011. MedySun is currently working on organizing showcases and exhibitions in various communities for charity. “Community work is part of my mission as artist. I feel if I rap about what goes on in our community is only right and logical to give back to the source of our inspiration. Hip Hop is here forever!”

Be On The Look-Out: Artist of the Week- Nova AKA Boom

A true artist standing at 6 feet tall it is obvious that Nova is a force to be reckoned with. Besides the street credit he has received all over NYC in the past 10 years he is also known for being a beast on the mic. Rashaun Lovitt better known by his stage name Nova aka Boom, was born August 29 1987 in Jamaica Hospital at 8:53 p.m. He grew up in Jamaica Queens, New York with his mother, grandparents and younger sister. During his early childhood Nova spent a great deal of time with his grandmother who mostly listened to Motown greats such The Temptations, The Manhattans, Earth Wind and Fire, and Rick James, but it wasn’t until the age of 8 that he began listening to hip hop. At the age of 12 in the 7th grade he began rapping under influence of his cousin Christopher “Blitz” Middleton. They formed a group called The Fully Loaded Assassins that consisted of Blitz, Nova and two other members. The group did not last long because its members were all very young, inexperienced and none of them took the work seriously. Nova still continued rapping but only with neighborhood friends. He continued his education at St John’s High school. While there he met a local rapper named Queenz and before long they became good friends. During Nova’s first two years of high school he did not show any of his rapping abilities. Although most of the local rappers rapped on train and bus rides home, that did not interest Nova. While he did support is friend Queenz when he battled on the train, Nova thrived for more. After two years in St John’s Nova transferred to Newtown High School. In Newtown he ran into Blitz again. Blitz had been working on a solo album after have some problems with his prior group and asked Nova to get on a track with him. Rashaun recorded his first verse on Blitz’s “Taken’em Down” and soon after recorded another verse on Blitz’s “How can I Make You See” which became a hit at their high school. After hearing these two tracks many people wanted to hear more from Nova. Knowing of the building anticipation, Nova worked on getting his first mixtape released.

By the age of 17 Nova hit the recording studio. Right from the start he used an array of styles, lyrics and flows and collaborated on songs with various artists such as Quenna Ariel and of course Blitz and thanks to great beat makers like Jewlz there was no denying Novas talent. While working on the mixtape he took some time out to build Team Blaze Entertainment with the help of Blitz. This is when Nova started realizing many things although he never spoke particularly about it; he says "it felt great; I love the feeling of music". Nova released his first mixtape under Team Blaze Entertainment entitled "Any Questions" on June 19, 2007. The majority of "Any Questions" was produced by Jewlz who is a great producer according to Nova.

After graduating high school Nova began exposing his music throughout the boroughs. He performed at places including; Crimson Lounge, Bronx, NY in September 2005, Don Hills, New York, NY in June 2006, Summer Fest, Brooklyn NY August in 2007, Who Got Next, New York , NY in October 2007 and Public Assembly in March 2009. As well as doing performances Nova was also interviewed by Drahma Magazine in March 2009 however the issue has not yet been published. Nova is now working on the second mixtape entitled "Just Practicing" which is scheduled to release May 2010. Nova also plans to release the sequel to Any Questions in the future. In September 2009 formed a trio with Frank "Emek" Pijuan and Andrew "Emanon" Dominguez. The trio is better known as the "Sons of New York". Sons of New York mixtape entitled My Stress Therapy is scheduled to release summer of 2010.
